Delegation of experts visit the Life Journey Experience Centre
In order to respond to the national strategy of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction and to promote the exchange of science and technology between the Mainland and Macao, the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macao (MAPST) and the China Women's Association for Science and Technology (CWAST) jointly organised the ‘Overseas Experts Walking on Campus Science Popularisation Activity’ on 11th April 2025, which was held at Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC). A delegation of experts led by academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering visited KWNC and started academic visits and exchanges, which injected new impetus to promote the development of high quality nursing education in the region.
Academicians and experts are gathered in a strong team
The expert panel is a strong one, covering top scholars in life sciences, engineering technology, information technology and other fields, including Yan Xiyun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Researcher at the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Sun Lili, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist at China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation; Yang Wei, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor at Zhejiang University; Gao Fu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Researcher at the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Gao Fu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Tu Shandong, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of East China University of Science and Technology, Lu Yutong, Professor of School of Computer Science of Sun Yat-sen University, Zhang Wei, researcher of School of Life Science of Peking University, Liu Xueming, professor of School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and other heavy-weight experts were present at the conference to give guidance. Representatives from the China Association of Women in Science and Technology, , the Office of International Cooperation, Lu Wenjie, the Office of International Cooperation, the China Science and Technology Development Foundation, and other relevant organisations, accompanied the delegation, which fully reflects the high importance that the State attaches to Macao's development in the field of science and education.
Teaching Inspection and Recognition of Educational Achievements
The delegation was received by the Secretary of Health Bureau, Lo Iek Long; Director of Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Leong Iek Hou; Director of MAPST, Leong Io Hon; Chair of the College Council of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, Lau Veng Seng. Member of the College Council of KWNC, Vong Pui Lam; President of KWNC, Van Iat Kio; Vice-Presidents of KWNC, Ng Wai I and Leong Sok Man. Members of the Advisory Committee and so on. During the visit, the experts inspected the College's nursing laboratories and the Life Journey Experience Pavilion, and spoke highly of the College's innovative practice of integrating modern technology with nursing education.

During the event, the expert group had an in-depth discussion with the College's leaders and teacher representatives on nursing talent cultivation, scientific research cooperation and other issues, and pointed out the need to continue to strengthen in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the future. Gao Fu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a lecture entitled ‘Microorganisms and Human Beings’, which was hosted by Xu QingXin, lecturer of the KWNC. The seminar presented the latest advances in microbiological research from the perspective of global public health, and the students and teachers actively participated in the discussion with enthusiastic responses.
The event attracted more than 500 students and faculty members. The College set up a live streaming session for students who were unable to attend the event to participate online.
Serving a Healthy Future in the Greater Bay Area
Van Iat Kio, President of KWNC, said that the visit of the academicians and experts provided valuable guidance for the development of the College, which not only broadened the academic horizons of the teachers and students, but also laid the foundation for the future co-operation between the College and the top research institutes in the Mainland. The College will take this as an opportunity to further enhance the standard of education and nurture more excellent nursing and elderly talents for the medical and healthcare industry in the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Greater Bay Area. President Van pointed out that this event, through the professional guidance and experience sharing of academicians and experts, demonstrated the characteristics and innovative practices of the College in the field of nursing education, and added to the achievements of scientific and humanistic exchanges in the Greater Bay Area, which is of far-reaching significance for the synergistic development of the healthcare industry in the region.
